Choose the year before the table or fixture

Cricbuzz's archive linked to Indian Premier League 2026, with a season match list separate from other competitions. Open the season's full title and date range before interpreting a result. Old searches often include IPL 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 or 2024; those years change the question. A completed 2022 scorecard cannot answer who is playing today, and a current team roster cannot safely be projected back onto an older match.

Within a season, use the relevant view for matches, points, statistics or squads where it is available. Confirm the competition is the men's Indian Premier League rather than Women's Premier League or another league with Premier in its name. A search result may shorten the title. The season header, teams and fixtures are stronger identifiers than an abbreviated snippet.

Read the points table as team standings

A points table combines the competition's results into standings. Read played, won, lost, no-result or tied columns alongside points and net run rate when those fields are displayed. If teams have the same points total, check the tournament's actual tie-break rules before declaring a qualification position. A table order is a dated state of the competition, not a prediction that the same teams will qualify at the end.

Do not manually allocate points from a weather message. A delayed match may resume, a shortened game may produce a result, and an abandoned game can receive a different treatment under the rules. Wait for the recorded outcome and updated table. If a screenshot disagrees with the season page, compare the capture time and games played. A table with one fewer completed match is not necessarily a scoring error.

Net run rate: understand the arithmetic and its exceptions

At its simplest, net run rate compares a team's aggregate scoring rate with the rate it concedes. In an illustration with complete 20-over innings, scoring 180 in 20 overs and conceding 160 in 20 overs gives 9.00 minus 8.00, or +1.00. Across several games, use the relevant aggregate runs and overs; averaging the displayed net rate from individual games can give a different answer.

Overs must be converted from balls, not read as decimals: 19.4 means 19 overs and four legal balls. All-out innings, shortened matches and revised targets require the competition's particular treatment. The simple illustration above does not calculate those cases or establish every IPL tie-break rule. For a qualification dispute, keep the underlying scorecards and consult the season's rules instead of treating a rounded displayed NRR as a complete calculation.

Orange Cap, Purple Cap and season statistics

Orange Cap and Purple Cap searches concern batting runs and bowling wickets within a particular IPL season. Keep the season filter when following a player into a profile: a career total, all T20 total and IPL-season total have different scopes. A current top batter or bowler can change after another game. This guide does not present a static leader as today's live standings.

For a historical query such as Orange Cap 2021 or Purple Cap 2022, open that year's season statistics. Then compare appearances, innings and the statistic being ranked. An auction purchase price is not an extra statistic in a batting table, and a high strike rate from a small innings sample does not by itself establish the best season. Explain the measure you are using when comparing players.

Auction trackers, retentions and the playing XI

An auction tracker can show the player, role, bid or sale amount and buying team. Retention and release articles describe a different stage of squad building. Keep the auction year distinct from the playing season, especially around year-end. A report that a franchise may release a player is also different from a completed transaction. Read whether the article records a confirmed event or cites a possible move.

A retained player or successful auction bid does not establish that the player is in the next match's XI. Match selection, availability and a final squad update come later. Confirm the actual match's team information when the toss and line-ups are published. Auction purse figures should retain their stated rupee or crore units; a bare number copied from a headline can lose both its currency and its meaning.

Today, an old final, and live IPL video

For today's IPL score, use the match status inside the selected season. For the 2012 final or an older IPL live-score query, use the historical season and completed scorecard. The address can contain live-cricket-scores even when the match finished years ago. Preserve the teams and date when saving or sharing the record so that a later reader can identify the same game.
