Cricbuzz Live Score Guide: Scorecards and Ball-by-Ball

Find today's match without confusing the teams

Open the Live Scores section on cricbuzz.com and identify the fixture by teams, format and series. The homepage reviewed on 2 November had All, Live Now and Today controls alongside International, League, Domestic and Women categories. A national-team abbreviation by itself is insufficient: India A, India Under-19 and the senior India side can play different games close together. Check the full title and venue before reading the innings.

India versus Pakistan, New Zealand, Australia, England, South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan or West Indies can refer to a T20I, ODI, Test or an old tournament. Confirm the date and match number as well as the country names. A result for an earlier encounter may remain prominent in search. If a page says Complete or records a winning margin, it is a result, even if its address contains live-cricket-scores.

1. Choose the competition category that matches the fixture.
2. Match both teams, including Women, A or Under-19 where applicable.
3. Check the series, date, venue and match number.
4. Read whether play is live, upcoming, delayed or complete.
5. Open the innings and view that answer your question.

Read runs, wickets and overs correctly

In a worked example, 143/4 after 17.2 overs means 143 runs, four wickets down and 17 completed overs plus two legal deliveries. It does not mean 17.2 decimal overs. For six-ball overs, that is 104 legal balls, or 17⅓ overs. A simple current run-rate calculation is 143 divided by 17⅓, approximately 8.25 runs per over. This example is arithmetic, not a score from a match being played now.

The full scorecard adds each batter's runs and balls, dismissal, boundaries and strike rate; bowling rows give overs, runs and wickets. Read extras separately instead of attributing them all to batters. A batter marked not out has not been dismissed at that point. In a Test, keep the first and second innings distinct, along with any lead or deficit. A team's total in one innings is not necessarily its aggregate match position.

Use ball-by-ball commentary for the sequence of play

Commentary helps answer what happened around a wicket, a boundary or an over. The completed India–New Zealand fixture we inspected had separate Commentary, Scorecard, Squads, Overs, Graphs and Full Commentary views. Labels can differ across layouts, but the distinction is useful: the scorecard summarises the innings while delivery text describes its progression. For a disputed event, compare the correct over and innings rather than comparing two page totals captured at different times.

A wide or no-ball can increase the score without advancing the legal-ball count in the ordinary way. Several entries may therefore appear against the same delivery position. A correction can also change a dismissal or credited run after an initial update. Read the completed over and revised scorecard when reconciling the record. We did not observe or measure a particular scoring correction, and do not promise an error-free feed.

Upcoming, rain delay, innings break and final result

A quiet score does not by itself indicate a broken app. An upcoming fixture may show a scheduled start; a toss update can precede the first delivery. Lunch, tea, stumps, an innings break, bad light and rain all interrupt play for different reasons. Read the status message and commentary before refreshing repeatedly. If a rain-affected limited-overs match displays a revised target, use that target and the reduced-overs position together.

A completed result should include its margin or other recorded outcome. A chase won by wickets and a defence won by runs describe different situations; they are not interchangeable score formats. Abandoned, no result and tied also need their own recorded status. Do not infer a tournament points allocation from a blank score or an interrupted stream. The competition table and its rules determine the standings.

Yesterday's result, old scorecards and the right year

For yesterday's match, identify the date in India and confirm which time zone the fixture page displays. A late match in another country can cross an Indian calendar date. The inspected New Zealand fixture explicitly labelled its time LOCAL. Keep that label when comparing a schedule or screenshot; an unlabeled time copied into a message may refer to a different day in IST.

For older games, choose Archives and the original season. Searches such as IPL 2020 live score, a 2012 IPL final scorecard or an old India intra-squad match are historical-record tasks. A match can retain a live-score URL years after completion. Read the tournament year, date and full teams before using its figures, and do not rename an old scorecard as a current fixture.

When the score, notification and broadcast disagree

First compare like with like: the same match, innings, ball and timestamp. A television or internet broadcast, push notification and open score page travel through different systems. One being ahead on your screen does not establish a universal fastest service. We did not synchronise a handset with a broadcast or benchmark Cricbuzz against another provider. The publisher's speed claims remain advertising claims rather than measured results in this guide.

If the page itself appears stale, reopen the fixture and compare it with the browser version on the same connection. If browser text updates but app alerts do not, check the selected match and the phone's notification permissions before treating it as a general outage. Record the over and time in IST if you report the issue. A score problem, a Hindi-language question and a video playback problem need different troubleshooting.
